An American Original
Every now and then, you run across a real artist. Not a derivative artist, but the real thing- an artist with original ideas, and an artist who doesn't (and refuses to) ride the popularity or trend train.
There is a kind of artist who isn't afraid to take a risk, try new things or actually come to a thinking conclusion for themselves, taking nothing into account but reality as they know it and see it. Obviously, this kind of artist does not define themselves by wearing someone else's name on their ass.
If this person is an real educator, well, either your every dream or every nightmare will have been realized. (SC&A will not use the word 'teacher.' We will use that word to describe the fools that think think 2 months vacation is a God given right only they deserve. Further, we use the word teacher to describe those idiots who absolutely refuse to be tested for subject matter competency, because they are 'offended.' There is a world of difference between an educator and a teacher). More on that later on.
Mamacita, of Weekly Scheiss, is just such an original artist- and she is an educator to boot.
Mamacita has seen it all. She has seen failure and succees, in her own life and in the lives of her charges. No one will ever accuse Mamacita of being politically correct. If a child fails, she knows how much is the child's fault and how much the parenting (or lack thereof) is to blame. Mamacita will sit a parent down and let them know in no uncertain terms, the secret to children's success is real parental involvement. If you are a parent that isn't measuring up because you are too self centered or too self absorbed, you are not protected from reality by a constitutional right not to have your self esteem injured.
Mamacita never explicitely says any of that, of course, but in reading her blog, those truths and many others become evident. She writes about her family with a passion that is deep rooted. That she loves her family is clear, that she has high expectations of them is clearer (those expectations of being the best they can be) and that she is after all these years, still the mother in charge of her cubs, fiercly protective at times and just as fiercly throwing those cubs into the real world. She may not like that all the time, but she knows they must learn to fend for themselves.
Mamacita writes about her passions and beliefs- and with equal sureness, she writes of her her foibles and faults, encouraging us to laugh with her along the way. With that, we know that we are like her and we too, understand that her description of home and family, adds to our own understanding of the same.
SC&A often use the word 'community,' that assembly place of equals, to describe a particular blog's readership. We aren't sure that 'community. is the right word to describe the Weekly Scheiss readership.
We believe Mamacita's readers come to learn. That is no small feat- in a world where everyone is an expert simply because they say so, to have a place to go to learn is a special thing indeed. We say this with a sureness, because that is why we visit Mamacita regularly- to learn. We, and all her readers, are usually a bit more aware after the few minutes we spend on her site.
In truth, Mamacita cannot be defined. She cannot be labeled, defined or ever be seen as predicatable. Save for the those truths she sees as self evident, Mamacita defies categorization- and therin lies her greatest strength. She is not a liberal or a conservative, or any other opposites- those labels are far too restrictive.
Mamacita is honest, and if that takes her from one side to other on a few issues, so be it. She will side with the truth wherever it is found.
To some, on either side of the parenting spectrum, that may be a bit disconcerting. To those parents we say, screw you and think of what is best for your kids. Those phony ideologies you carry in your wallet or bag are the prophylactics that got us- and this country- into trouble, to start with.
There are many reasons to read Weekly Scheiss. We could have commented on various posts that Mamacita has written, and pointed to her wittiness and humor. Those things will be there regardless- Mamcita is undeniably witty and humerous. However, to define her as such, does her and her readers a disservice.
Mamacita is far more important to her readers than that.
