Anonymous Comments And Good Ideas And Over At The Ancoress
An anonymous commenter left a series of comments )on our post below, about steaks)- actually, it was a repost of an article in the Guardian, about Hugo Chavez and Pat Robertson. Mr Robertson has intially called for the assasination of Mr Chavez. Fortunately, Mr Robertson had the sense to issue a public apology.
The whole sorry incident is reminiscent of the Jesse Jackson 'Hymie Town' references. It would be irresponsible to make the Robertson affair more than it really is. Robertson's flock is no more in favor of political assasinations than Jackson's flock are anti semites.
There are those that called for the President to apologize for Mr Robertson's remarks. We do not recall anyone calling for President Reagan at the time to apologize for the Reverand Jackson's remarks.
Like Jackson's unfortunate remarks, Robertsons poorly ill informed remarks are best forgotten as quickly as possible.
We are also glad to see so many people responding negatively to Mr Chavez' remarks.
Now, if we could only get all those people who, in a frenzy of wild and irresponsible behavior, publicly claimed how they wanted to kill our President, on web sites and as protestors.
Along the same lines, and while we certainly wouldn't want to jump to conclusions, The Anchoress points to a double standard that is disturbing simply because it has elicited no attention- or second thought. Be sure to click through to all the links.
