Michele Malkin is pretty sanguine about most things- she calls 'em as she sees em. Her post, Kennedy Unhinged: Liveblogging The Meltdown, is no different. No words of hers can do justice to Kennedy meltdown she refers to (be sure to see the video link):

We're talking now about the Supreme Court. But they are the ones who changed this country inevitably with what we call the march to progress. The march towards knocking down the walls of discrimination that permitted us to pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act and public accomodations so people who's skin was not white who could go into restaurants and hotels. Public accomodations. The '65 act for voting. Voting rights. The '68 act. The public accomodations. The 1973 act that said that women are going to treated equally. The Americans with Disabilities Act that said that the disabled are going to be part of the American family.

All of that is part of the march for progress.

And my friends, the one organization, the one institution that protects it is THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES!!! (Screaming at the top of his lungs.)

Mr Kennedy seems to be suggesting that Samuel Alito is the great white bogeyman that will singlehandedly tear down the country.

What Senator Kennedy might recall is that many of the Supreme Court Justices he claims to admire were appointed by Republican administrations- including Justices Sandra Day O'Conner, David Souter, Anthony Kennedy and John Paul Stevens.

Richard Nixon appointed Republican Harry Blackmun to the Supreme Court. Justice Blackmun was to author the Roe V Wade Supreme Court decision.

Potter Stewart, another Republican, concurred with Justice Blackmun on Roe V Wade.

Justice Warren Burger was another Republican that concurred with Justice Blackmun.

In other words, Senator Kennedy might do well to remember that the Republicans have a pretty good track record of appointing Supreme Court Justices.

In fact the good Senator might recall how many Democrats were outraged at Lyndon Johnson's Civil Rights Act of 1964. Mr Kennedy might want to consider many of the decisions made by Democrat Supreme Court Justices.

We suggest he keep a bottle of scotch nearby.
