Sex, Consequences And Your Kids

The best post you'll read this week, month or maybe even this year, has been written by Mamacita, over at Scheiss Weekly.

In fact, The Post Where I Alienate Some People But That Isn't The Intention, is well written, cogent- and about hard truths. Mamacita talks about sex and has the temerity to draw boundaries.

Perhaps one of the points is that there are many aspects of life that are wonderful. Some of them are available for people of any age; several of them are available only for people of a certain age, and several of them are appropriate only for people of a certain age and circumstances.Or should be.

Mamacita deals with that annoying reality- that there are indeed consequences to behavior, and pretending there aren't any consequnces is how we end up with problems we now face- and we now pretend doesn't exist. There have been a few dozen priests that assaulted kids. Does anyone suggest that there won't be an equal number of teachers that have asssaulted kids? We're all fine with bashing priests for sexual misconduct but somehow, we are refusing to see an epidemic not yet fully exposed. Why do you suppose that is?

There are consequences to a society that has let desire run wild and we are in ferocious denial. We wrote,

The biblical account of Creation takes up all of 600 words.
Whether you believe the account is literal or allegorical or even if you don't believe in the divinity of the story at all, there is no question of the impact the story has influenced our culture and society like no other.
In age where words are expended by the millions every hour, in an attempt to give an identity to what is true and what isn't, it is all the more astonishing that those 600 words had the impact they did.
Truth is a funny thing. Ask any scientist, mathematician or child. They will tell you that once understood, truth is succinct, clear and remarkably self explanatory.

The story of Genesis was the first chapter in the book that came to define society and outlined boundaries and behavior, for believers and non-believers alike. Maybe that is why so many people hate religion. What they really want is a kind of anarchy, where any behavior is acceptable, irrespective of the consequences- and those consequences can be hearbreaking and last a lifetime. Mamacita goes on to write,

...I have seen a lot of heartbreak and disillusionment in our young people, because they disregarded certain conventions and 'did their own thing' to the tune of flouting old-fashioned boring things like morality and fidelity and chastity, besides which, such doings often bring yet another innocent being into the world who gets to reap the benefit of being raised by teenagers, fed by government-subsidized programs, educated via free book rental, clothed by the salvation army, and housed by charity. Yes, sometimes it works, but it would have worked better if it had been done later. Have you any idea how many kids in the public schools have parents who have passed the same VD's around from household to household? Most of you wouldn't BELIEVE the stories most teachers could tell you.

Read Mamacita's post. She knows your kids, better than you do.

What Psycho-Therapists Won't Tell You

So you think Dr Sanity, Shrinkwrapped, Neo-neocon and the Assistant Village Idiot have easy? Do you berate yourself because you didn't come up with the SC&A blog yourself?

Do you really think it's easy being a brilliant psycho-therapist? Do you think that with a bit of training even you could do the job?

Being a psycho-therapist takes real work.

It isn't easy to stay awake, pretending to be concerened about people we don't know, and in most cases, people we don't really care about. There are only so many versions of 'unfulfilled' we can listen to.

After years of listening to people whine about their banal and mundane existance, we know what most of them really need is a good swift kick in the pants. Of course, that will cut into our income, so we tape Oprah regularly and employ the newest 'touchy feely' ideas, no matter how shallow, into our therapy (If we can quote Maya Angelou, even better). If we can make you cry, you're happy to keep on paying. It's a win-win situation. You're happy, we're happy.

With the money we make, we go to conferences in exotic places, where we pretend to 'talk shop' and swap tales of our most outrageous lunatic clients and make perfect strangers laugh about your bizarre sexual idiosyncrasies (yes, all). Oh, one more thing- most importantly, we discuss stock tips. That's why you've never met a poor psycho-therapist.

Work isn't meant to be fulfilling or fun. That's why it's called work. Nobody heads out every morning and says. "Bye sweetie, I'm off to fun!" So you're not happy at work? Welcome to the real world. Don't feel fulfilled at your job? No one really cares, certainly not your therapist. As a matter of fact, all we care about is that you keep your job so you can keep on paying us. The longer you're miserable at work, the more time you need in therapy.

If and when your spouse/partner/mother/priest/pet complain about the cost of therapy, we introduce 'negative relationship issues' into the mix. That's always good for at least six more months of additional counselling. When that time nears an end, we always suggest that you 'self express,' via the 'arts.'

We encourage you take up an art form that you're least likely to succeed at (for example, we always suggest acting for terminally shy people or sculpting for those of you that keep dropping the Kleenex box), so you will absolutely need an additional six months therapy to ovecome your feelings of real inadequacy.

That isn't to say we're all heartless. When we know that you need a third mortgage, we will declare you "ready to deal with your own problems now." We will accept your teary eyed gratitude and encourage you to call if you ever feel overwhelmed.

The money you might spend on further therapy would be better spent on Ron Popeil's 'set it and forget it!' Showtime Rotisserie for everyone you know (SC&A included). You can buy a lot of rotisseries with the money six months of therapy cost.

It's a lot of work being a psycho-therapist.

Time For The News

It was only a matter of time before news 'special effects.'

Oprah, Katie and Babawawa, you have been put on notice.

While you're at it, remember today is High Five A Muslim Day.

Of Bombs And 'Moderates'

Suppose you knew that Iran had every intention of developing a nuclear weapon? Suppose lots of people knew Iranian intentions- and suppose the MSM media refused to report on Iranian intentions. Well, that is exactly the case. In MSM Ignores Iran's Admission Of Guilt, Alexandra, of All Things Beautiful, lays it all out. She quotes the Iranian Press Service:
”We need time in order to put into practice our potentials. The day we can master full nuclear cycle, the world would face a fait accompli. The world did not want Pakistan to have [an] atomic bomb or Brazil to possess full nuclear cycle. But both achieved their goals and the world accepted [it]. Our problem is that we have achieved neither, even though we are not that far.”
Alexandra goes on to illustrate the blatant hypocrisy and outright deceit exemplified by the MSM and more significantly, by Mohammed El Baradei, of the UN IAEA. Alexandra writes,
“Well, I don't know what ElBaradei is playing at, but the admission of one of Iran's top officials, that they were playing games with the IAEA so as to gain more time to complete their true nuclear ambitions, the acquisition of a nuclear bomb, is good enough for me and most certainly worth reporting.

But, alas nothing. Not even at this current stage of last minute diplomatic wrangling, of looming UN sanctions and the MSM's keen awareness of possible military strikes against Iran!

Not even when the man making these extraordinary admissions is Mr. Rowhani, the signatory of the October 2003 accord with Britain, France and Germany, now known as EU3 or the European Troika, which was committing Iran to voluntarily suspend all sensitive nuclear activities and to accept the Additional Protocol to the non Proliferation Treaty (NPT).”

Clear enough. Alexandra's post is an important read, if for no other reason it presents in a cogent and logical order, all the players, positions and statements, real and those meant to obfuscate, in perspective.

We can delude ourselves into the complacency of fools, if we choose. Nevertheless, reality will not accommodate our self indulgent fantasies. If we do not act, Iran will have a nuclear weapon and at some point, the Iranians will use that weapon.

They are the only nation that has publicly threatened to use a nuclear weapon. What is most significant is that the Iranian official that made that threat was Hashemi Ali Rafsanjani- the same Hashemi Ali Rafsanjani that is portrayed as a moderate as compared to Iranian President Almahdinejad.

Think about that. The 'moderate' Iranian leader advocated the use of nuclear weapons. His remarks are recounted here, in a press release issued by the Iranian Press Service.

MEMRI quotes Rafsanjani as saying,

...the use of a nuclear bomb in Israel will leave nothing on the ground, whereas it will only damage the world of Islam.
Nice words from someone so reasonable.

Bitches, Ho's And The Freeing Of Mary Todd Lincoln

We read two posts today, one at The Anchoress and the other at Maxed Out Mama, two of the smarter bloggers out there. Each commented on a post by Pedro, over at the Quietest, in which he discusses the Left's new analysis of the real meaning of pregnancy. In Breeders Infected With Feeders, The Anchoress says,

“My alarm bells began to ring when I read the part about babies stretching out and therefore damaging the tonality of the vagina. I know how serious these folks are about their vaginas! They write to me - often - discussing the integrity of the vagina and the superiority of the vagina over any and all other sexual musculature/organs. How can their vaginas sound their barbaric yawps if the elastic integrity of that gritty little number is compromised?”
Maxed Out Mama (we are delighted she is back at the helm) writes in Absolutely Crying With Laughter,
Working for a living can do all of the above things to a person's body as well. It causes stress diseases, wrinkles and grumpiness. So should we outlaw work next? I have met and read many la-la leftists who want to do exactly that. I ran into one on Howard Dean's website that claimed that having to work for a living was unconstitutional - it restricted his freedom. No lie”.

I hope these types of hysterics won't control any debate. I doubt that it is easy for the state to regulate abortion well and rationally, because forcing a woman to continue a pregnancy that will probably kill her is not going to become law, and it is very, very difficult medically to know what will happen in many circumstances. From a woman's point of view, it is quite impressive if there are
only 500 pregnancy-related deaths a year. Something is working incredibly well in our health system.
We decided we were going to write about a real progressive and a real feminist. Chances are, you don't know who she is, because she is ignored by feminists and the feminist movement. Why? Because she wanted to make a real, tangible, difference in the lives of women, rather than make a political statement or push a particular political agenda. In a world that believes referring to oneself as a bitch, ho or any derivative thereof, is a huge liability. In placing the real needs of women instead of extolling female sexuality, this feminist's fate was sealed. She was forgotten, her ideals of feminism replaced with women praising 'Sex in the City' instead of dealing with 100 million women afflicted with FGM and no end in sight. The systematic rape of women in Darfur is supplanted with Women's Studies departments sponsorship of BDSM seminars.

Compare todays feminists with the real thing- Myra Bradwell.

Do you know who Myra Bradwell was? Well, she was America's first woman lawyer and a true blue feminist- the real deal. She also won Mary Todd Lincoln's release from an unjust confinement in 1875.

These two seminal events in the history of our nation and in the march towards women's rights were accomplished without Ms Bradwell referring to her self as a bitch, ho or any other diminutive. Further she did not refer to or make reference to her vagina, or any other part of her anatomy.

This extraordinary woman remains largely unknown today. Perhaps she is ignored by feminists (and remains a footnote in history) because she had the temerity to concern herself with women's rights and injustice. She did not know what university Womens Studies programs were, she did not recite poetry praising the ultimate vagina (lesbian, of course) and she was far less concerned with politics than she was with human rights and dignity. We remain in the dark as to whether or not she pierced her nipples or any other part of her anatomy and celebrated that self mutilation as an expression of her femininity.

Unlike the current crop of highly self esteemed and trophied feminists, Myra Bradwell concerned herself not with poetry, sexual organs or witchcraft (why was every woman who recalls a 'past life' a high priestess, witch, Egyptian princess or sexual trailblazer in that past life? Didn't anyone do laundry?)

Myra Bradwell's husband, James, was the son of immigrants who worked his way through law school doing manual labor. Understanding the merits of real labor and adversity, he more than anyone appreciated Myra's determination to become a lawyer. It was he who encouraged Myra to read the law. She saw her studies as a way to help her husband with his growing practice. James Bradwell saw well beyond that. In 1869, Myra passed the Bar exam with high honors and then petitioned the Illinois courts for a license. Up to that point, Myra ended her civic duties- she raised money for the Union cause and nursed Civil War soldiers. Passing her Bar exam was to be the catalyst that was to result in the beginning of the next phase of Myra Bradwell's life.

Life was not to be so easy. The Illinois courts turned Bradwell's request for a law license down. The court argued that that as Mrs James Bradwell, she could not legally enter into a contract. The court referred to her status as the Marital Disability.

Myra Bradwell fired back, likening the courts argument to the Dred Scott decision, barring citizenship rights to Black Americans. A second attempt to secure a law license was rejected by the less circumspect Illinois Supreme Court. She was not to be granted a license, they ruled, because she was a woman.

Bradwell made her way to the US Supreme Court and was unceremoniously shot down. Justice Joseph Bradley summed up the High Court's ruling as follows: "The natural and proper timidity and delicacy which belongs to the female sex evidently unfits it for many occupations of civil life....The paramount destiny and mission of women are to fulfill the noble and benign office of wife and mother. This is the law of the Creator."

The Illinois court was to reverse itself in 1885 and grant Myra Bradwell a law license- a full 10 years after she entered and took center stage in a legal controversy that was to transform her from a narrow agitator for women's occupational rights into a full blown activist for a wide range of feminist demands.

In 1875, Mary Todd Lincoln was committed to an institution by her only surviving son, Robert Todd Lincoln, in a Cook County (Illinois) kangaroo court. Such legal proceedings were used to 'control' 'unruly' women- 'unruly' being defined in any number of ways, including interfereing with a man's access to money or property. One morning in May, Mrs Lincoln, with no warning, was arrested and brought to court. Testimony was offered up as to Mrs Lincoln's insanity by a half dozen doctors who never examined her and her defense lawyer, hired by her son, was well known to have a professed dislike for Mrs Lincoln. He mounted absolutely no defense and Mrs Lincoln was sent to an Illinois mental institution. Her 'legal representative' was well paid for his efforts.

Mary Lincoln was a prisoner, her every movement to be reported to her son, Robert Todd Lincoln. On more than one a occasion, he made clear his intention of keeping his mother 'put away' for a very long time.

Despite the tight security imposed on her by her son, Mary Lincoln managed to smuggle a letter to her friend, Myra Bradwell. They had come to know each other as neighbors in Chicago's Union Square neighborhood. The contents of the letter are unknown- Robert Todd Lincoln's lawyer bought the letter years later and had it destroyed. What is known is the in the letter, Mary Lincoln beseeches her friend, the only woman lawyer in the United States (though unlicensed), Myra Bradwell, to come to her rescue.

With limited options, Myra Bradwell came up with a plan that would make Madison Avenue proud. She would embarrass Robert Lincoln in the most public way she could. She would accompany legions of reporters to the institution where Mary Lincoln was held hostage. She told reporters that the owner of the for profit institution was trying to drive Mrs Lincoln insane. Myra Bradwell always noted that Mrs Lincoln was 'no more insane than I am”; “Is the widow of President Lincoln a prisoner?” and “The whole world will rejopice at Mrs Lincoln's freedom.”

Robert Todd Lincoln's plan to keep his mother out of sight never had a chance from the moment Myra Bradwell entered the fray. Protecting her friend, Mary Todd Lincoln, was to mark the beginning of Bradwell's efforts on behalf of women. The nature of those efforts were to guarantee Myra Bradwell's obscurity. Myra Bradwell wanted to make a difference in the lives of women- she was less inclined to make a political statement. It wasn't about what she might contribute to the effort. It was always about helping other women, including developing a statute that would give mothers equal rights when it came to child custody and giving women the right to control their own money. Myra Bradwell was to be at the fore of protecting battered and abused women and children.

She founded the Chicago Legal News. By 1879, she would report there were 26 female lawyers in the US. In 1885, as we noted, the Illinois courts awarded Bradwell a license to practice law.

Myra Bradwell died in 1894 at the age of 64. She was mourned by thousands of women, who owed a debt of gratitude for the easier life and equal opportunities she helped made a fact if life.

She never took her clothes off, she never put politics ahead of helping women and she never wanted attention for herself.

No wonder she is rejected and forgotten by feminists today. She was everything they'll never be.

A Taste Of Hamastan

A taste of Hamas leaves Palestininans wanting...
In the nine months since Hamas won control of Qalqiliya's town council, it says it has balanced the budget and rooted out corruption.

Yet residents were not satisfied, and in a stunningly swift change of heart voted for candidates of the rival Fatah Party in last month's parliamentary election.

Hamas' defeat in Qalqiliya - in contrast to its landslide victory just about everywhere else in the West Bank and Gaza - highlights the obstacles ahead as the militant group tries to rule an impoverished, impatient population. Meeting voters' expectations will be even harder if Western nations make good on threats to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in aid once a Hamas government takes over.

The reversal in Qalqiliya was born of voter fickleness, annoyance with Hamas' efforts to impose order and residents' demands for quick improvements in their lives.

"We have no time to wait. We have no money. We can't wait years. We tried Hamas for six months," said resident Yasser Barkham, 37, who backed Hamas in the local election, but then switched to Fatah, the party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Qalqiliya, a town of 45,000, was always considered one of the more moderate Palestinian communities and it maintained close ties to the neighboring Israeli town of Kfar Saba, where many residents worked.

Like most Palestinian communities, Qalqiliya's economy crashed when Israeli-Palestinian violence broke out in 2000. Cut off from its economic partner by Israel's new separation barrier, the town grew more conservative and more desperate.

The Fatah administration, riddled by corruption and infighting, alienated voters here before the May 5 municipal elections, and Hamas swept all 15 seats on the town council by promising reform and a better life. The victory was seen as a predictor of the group's eventual victory in the parliamentary election.

Qalqilitya's Hamas mayor, Wajeeh Nazzal, has been jailed in Israel for 42 months without charges. His deputy, Hashim al-Masri, took office in his place and worked swiftly to put the town's chaotic finances in order.

He computerized the financial records, put in place strict regulations and created administrative order, he said.

In a plan to increase revenue, the town gave discounts to residents who paid their utility bills promptly. It doubled the income from the zoo by ensuring entrance fees went to town coffers instead of to corrupt officials.

By year's end, the government had turned a projected $640,000 deficit into a $640,000 surplus, using the money to pave roads and lay water pipes, al-Masri said. The town has sought bids for sewage work and for a new restaurant in the zoo, he said.

"What we did in one year was more than the previous council did in five years," he said.

The Hamas council did cause a minor scandal when it denied a music festival use of a municipal building, forcing its cancellation and fanning fears Hamas was trying to impose its strict interpretation of Islam.(emp- SC&A)

Many residents said they were not concerned about that controversy. But they also were unimpressed with the new government's transparency and accounting procedures.

"I'm not interested in administration. I want services," said Ghassan Amoudi, 43, a fishmonger.

Residents said they were furious about the explosion in electricity prices since Hamas took power, an increase al-Masri attributed to the rise in world oil prices.

They also got fed up with Hamas' efforts to establish order. Drivers complained they could no longer park in restricted areas and storeowners were angry when they were forced to remove sidewalk displays.

Many here also believed that the rise of Hamas, listed as a terror group by the United States and European Union, drove foreign aid projects out of town.

And after five years of hardship, they wanted instant improvements.

"People raised their expectations a lot," said Ibrahim Juma, 50, who owns a clothing store. But they were not fulfilled, he said.

With Hamas' popularity falling, the local Fatah branch recovered from its surprise defeat and reorganized in preparation for the Jan. 25 parliament vote, said Ahmad Shreim, a local Fatah leader who was elected to parliament.

It held a primary to choose its candidates for Qalqiliya's two parliament seats. When two of the losers decided to run as independents - a widespread Fatah phenomenon that may have cost the party more than a dozen seats across the West Bank and Gaza - the Qalqiliya branch closed ranks, ostracizing the rebels, Shreim said.

On election day, Fatah set up an operations room that opened at 6 a.m. and sent more than 600 activists into the streets with voter lists in a get-out-the-vote effort, Shreim said. By 10 a.m., Fatah knew it had won the Qalqiliya seats in a landslide.

When asked to explain Hamas' defeat, al-Masri dissembled in a manner more customary to Fatah officials, claiming Hamas voters were confused and boycotted the election - despite a turnout above 80 percent, among the highest in the West Bank.

Shreim hopes Fatah's overall loss in the election will shock the party, much as he was shocked last year, and spur widespread reforms. He has already begun holding seminars with other party branches to teach them the secret of his victory.

"Qalqiliya was a model for success, and we want that experience repeated all over the country," he said.
There is more here than meets the eye.

Anti Americanism, Refuse And Character

Darcey, over at Dust My Broom, had a few posts on Anti Americanism. In Hating America: A History, he reviews a book by Margaret Drabble, who writes,
My anti-Americanism has become almost uncontrollable. It has possessed me, like a disease. It rises up in my throat like acid reflux, that fashionable American sickness. I now loathe the United States and what it has done to Iraq and the rest of the helpless world. I have tried to control my anti-Americanism, remembering the many Americans that I know and respect, but I can’t keep it down any longer. I detest Disneyfication, I detest Coca-Cola, I detest burgers, I detest sentimental and violent Hollywood movies that tell lies about history. I detest American imperialism, American infantilism, and American triumphalism about victories it didn’t even win.
There is more, of course. Darcey writes,
Blaming America helps to rationalize one’s own situation and prevents you from having to look yourself in the mirror. I’ve been guilty of it myself in probably many ways, laughing at the bubblegum chewing valley girl for example and applying that view to thousands of unfortunate Californians…. In retrospect, I did it because I thought I was better.
The post is a worthy read, as Darcey gives us his own honest sense of perspective we don't usually get to see. He has no agenda other than addressing the world and truth as he sees it. That is evidenced in the comments as well.

If that weren't enough, Darcey has a follow up post, Hating America, Continued, in which he links to another blog (be sure to click through) and then remarks, almost off handedly, in a remarkable addmission-
One of the things I didn’t relay very well in my own thoughts was that even for a person like myself who has nothing against Americans, who has even lived there, is that hating America is like having an accent. You sometimes don’t know you do it.
What is more remarkable is that Darcey clearly sees his own reality. Unlike most of us, he sees his own biases and prejudices, and that alone speaks volumes of him- and the credibility an honest man brings to the conversation.

To understand the man, read Everybody Hurts.
So what about a shitty divorce and all the fantasticos that are bound to come with it. I still got my son, make major cash, have unheard of amounts of personal freedom, do whatever I want whenever I want. That’s unheard of in Canada. My problems don’t amount to shit compared to just everyday issues most people have to deal with.

How the hell do you cry about it? You can’t unless your some big ass elitist. I came right out of the bush, just have to remember that somedays. I went to college wearing pink Sorrels stained with blood. I had a hard time walking down a certain hallway as there was a lady with her seeing eye dog that woud go banana’s whenever I walked by. Maybe I should have taken out the fox piss. I caught and ate fish out of the Red River.

I just pulled off my shirt to count. I have 6 knife wounds. Multiple scars from teeth, mostly in my knuckles, a jaw that won’t close, a body that hurts all over when it rains. I made it and I have nothing to complain about. But yet I have...
We wrote in The Who And Why Of Who We Are,
Europeans...dislike Americans because, in a short period of human history, [America] went on to surpass Europe in being the center of global influence. What was even worse, was that America was built by European 'garbage' as we put it. He started to object, but we immediately interrupted.

We went on to explain that a century ago, Europe was only too happy to rid itself of the 'wretched refuse' and 'teeming masses'. The European elite and intellectuals thought that once rid of the annoying and newly demanding 'unwashed' peasant class, Europe would once again regain it's rightful place as the center of the moral and political world, and thus preserve the imperialist relationships they had established, if not formally, then by necessity. Through benevolent noblesse oblige, Europe would assume control the economic and political fate of the 'lesser' nations. Without masses of lower classes, now demanding equitable political participation, Europe's destiny would be assured. America, that upstart, would be relegated to it's proper position- that of being subservient to Europe, no more than a source of cheap raw materials for what must be the dominant European economic model.

Europe, we said, never got over the fact that, unleashed, those 'wretched refuse' and 'huddled masses'- their very own- went on to build success not only for themselves, but for their adopted country as well. We said that these unwanted masses of people understood what the elite and intellectuals of Europe never understood for themselves-- that given the opportunity, they were perfectly able to fend for themselves, succeed and even excel. Thus, the European 'refuse' become proud and worthy pillars in the community. Their worth and contributions to the American mosaic was far more than what the Europeans had exploited them for. Europe had made a mistake by sending off it's most abundant natural resource, it's own sons and daughters. All had been willing to work- and then some, had they been given the chance. Europe had squandered it's best and most precious resource- a population ready to do it's best, in exchange for equal opportunity.
Darcey's story may have been written north of the 49th parallel, but it might as well have been written here.

Borders are just a lines on a map when it comes to character.

Eclipses And Other Truths

Some thoughts we found ourselves considering today: From "Rejoice, We Conquer!"
In the end, life is great. We are contributors, but no more than that. Of course, that in itself makes mourning the loss of life a worthwhile endeavor. We celebrate the contributions, great and small, each of us makes. The losses of those we love serve to cause us to reflect on our lives, priorities and contributions. In that way, we are blessed. Unlike animals, we can choose to make our lives more meaningful to those around us. Our contributions to each other can serve to change the rhythm of life itself.

In fact, even in the darkest despair of that eclipse that is the loss of a life, there can be found light, if we seek it. If we choose, we can break those self imposed boundaries that define our comfort zone. We can, if we choose, redefine our lives and how we will impact the lives of those close and not so close, to us.

From A World Without You In it?

You matter because you were born. For those of you that believe in God, man's destiny is waiting to be written by virtue of your efforts and passions. For those of you that do not believe in God, the power and potential of man is in your hands. This means that your very existence is vital. You are indispensable to mankind.

What notes will you choose to play in the symphony of life? Will you add to the music, or will your efforts be lacking, resulting in a hollowness?

In fact, you do matter. Not because of your wealth or looks, or productivity or great ideas. You matter because you were born- and because of the potential contributions you might make in that symphony of life. In fact, there are those notes that only you can play. You are irreplaceable. Just ask those people who love you and care for you. It is incumbent upon you to contribute to their lives and their well being. That in fact, is the greatest of destinies- to transform and make better, those around you. If you can do that, you will have changed lives, forever.

Broken Records...

Apparently, the London bombings were just the beginning. A Muslim extremist close to London's radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri told a Kuwaiti newspaper in remarks published Sunday that the July transit bombings in the British capital were just the beginning, and he expected more in coming years.

"This is part of a series of events that will go on for years."

Mark Steyn takes the extremist Muslim threats seriously. Needing To Wake Up, The West Just Closes Its Eyes, is an unvarnished look at what passes for imperious multiculturalism in France. In speaking of the Halimi murder in Paris, Steyn sums up an obvious, tough often obfuscated, truth:

Even in the most civilized societies, there are depraved monsters who do terrible things. When they do, they rip apart entire families, like the Halimis and Selams. But what inflicts the real lasting damage on society as a whole is the silence and evasions of the state and the media and the broader culture.
Read that quote again.

The problem, through the eyes of many in the Muslim world is clear.

''Anti-Islam began to replace Anti-Semitism in Western world and preventive legal precautions on this are not sufficient''
As barbarism becomes a as regular an event as the Paris metro schedules, the problem is anti Islam sentiment. Perhaps the butcher of a few more Jews will boost the radical Islamists self esteem.

Whereas the civilized world ought to be up in arms about this, instead there is wild, frenzied drive to blame free nations for the barbarism of of tyrannies- as if somehow, we were to blame for the choices made by regimes and the individuals that are at the head of those regimes, to behave in ways most heinous. Blaming America for beading Christians, stoning women, executing teenagers and murdering gays can hardly be considered a rational thought. Perhaps that it why the left can't be bothered dealing with those realities. A few thousand dead Christians, women, teenagers and gays, with numbers mounting everyday, cannot be allowed to impede the 'Get Bush' agenda.

That leads us to another question- Is Islam Beyond Criticism? That is the premise of a letter published in the Scotsman.

If it is permissible in a free society for anyone to attempt to undermine the deepest convictions of the Jewish diaspora, or, for that matter, those of fundamentalist evangelical Christians, then I cannot understand why the Islamic faith, alone of all world religions, should be treated as being beyond criticism even of a satirical nature.

This is especially true in the context of the current "war on (Islamic) terrorism", which has seen young Muslims driving planes into tall buildings packed with civilians and blowing themselves and others up on the London Underground, while citing the Koran and the "will of Allah" in posthumous justification for their appalling actions.

Hyperbole? Exaggeration? The acts and ideas of a few? Consider this:

A plan for the "Return of the Khalifate" was published secretly in 2002 by a group called "The Guiding Helper Foundation." The group explained that it wished to "give direction to the educated Muslim populace in its increasing interest in the establishment of Islam as a practical system of rule."

This past Friday, Feb. 24... Sheikh Nawahda called publicly for the renewal of the Islamic Khalifate, which would "unite all the Moslems in the world against the infidels."

Nawahda called upon the Arabs of the Palestinian Authority to rise above their personal and party interests, and said that Moslems must return to Islam and join forces in the struggle against the West. He praised the worldwide protests against the anti-Muhammed cartoons, and encouraged the Moslem public to continue such activities. He implied that those who insulted Muhammed are liable for death. The Sheikh designated the Moslem masses as a strong point that can be utilized in the fight against the West.

And so it goes. For some inexplicable reason, the New York Times decided to deal head on with the reality of the cartoon issue.

It is not the West that is most threatened in this crisis. The voices of moderation in the Muslim world are the ones that are being intimidated and silenced. Those few journalists and leaders who have spoken out against the rioting have been vilified and assailed, and even jailed. According to a report in The New York Times, 11 journalists in five Islamic countries face prosecution for printing some of the Danish cartoons, even when their purpose was to condemn them.

It is time for moderate Muslims to abandon the illusion that they can placate the Islamists by straddling the fence. It is they who must explain to their people that the cartoons were an isolated incident, and not the face of hostile crusaders. It is they who must make it clear to their people that blowing up mosques, beheading hostages and strapping on belts of explosives are far, far greater evils than a few drawings in a distant paper. They must do so because their future is at stake - not Denmark's.

The fact remains that if moderate Muslims are to isolated and marginalized, it ought to be by the radicals- and not ourselves.

Low Carb, High Protein Wisdom

Jeff Goldstein, of Protein Wisdom, is great example of a relevant blogger. His post, It Didn't Work, is an example of why blogs like Protein Wisdom are here to stay.

Jeff takes on Bill Buckley's assessment of Iraq, and does so cogently and cooly. Buckely states
Our mission has failed because Iraqi animosities have proved uncontainable by an invading army of 130,000 Americans. The great human reserves that call for civil life haven’t proved strong enough. No doubt they are latently there, but they have not been able to contend against the ice men who move about in the shadows with bombs and grenades and pistols.

The Iraqis we hear about are first indignant, and then infuriated, that Americans aren’t on the scene to protect them and to punish the aggressors. And so they join the clothing merchant who says that everything is the fault of the Americans.

Jeff Goldstein responds neatly:

What I don’t understand—and this has to do with my naivity and inability to grasp the workings of foreign policy promotion—is why we are unable to point out what to everyone is obvious: that the attack on the Dome at Samara was CARRIED OUT BY AL QAEDA FOR THE EXPRESS PURPOSES OF FOMENTING A CIVIL WAR?...

If ever we needed a propaganda campaign of our own, now is the time. Western newspapers all over the globe should be pointing out WHO IS BEHIND the attack, and WHAT THEIR AIMS ARE. Similarly, they should be pointing out that, for a free Iraq to work, sectarian differences must be put aside to join in the common cause of casting out the provocateurs who are PURPOSELY INSTIGATING THE CONDITIONS FOR A MANUFACTURED CIVIL WAR.

Buckley’s argument, for all it’s erudition and tone of heartfelt regret, does, nevertheless, hinge on a despair that Iraqis are still too tribalistic and ethnically divided to be able to form any kind of coalition that will provide them with freedom. I disagree.

Read the rest, here. With a few well chosen words, Jeff Goldstein manages one of the most cogent short courses on Iraq this year. Whatever side of the fence you are on, the post is worthy read.

Take A Deep Breath...

The Anchoress rightly notes that the UAE has been operating ports in Houston (Texas is still a part of the union) for years, with nary a problem.

The Republican and Democrat members of congress who were so quick to jump on this one seem now to be backing off, and I think the murmurs of “we’ll have to take our time, look at everything” are all part and parcel of the same WH walkback. Once everyone has their face-saving talking points in place, once those who were immediately opposed have a chance to say, “well it’s changed a bit, we’ve modified it and shaken our finger at Bush, so it’s not the terrible plan it once was,” and they get a chance to criticize how the Bush WH handled the story itself (and it will be deserved criticism), then the thing will go through and all will be quiet, except on the blogs…

While your there, see her post and link to the most recent antics of Cindy Sheehan and her post and links on the Hitchen's organized march in support of the Danes. Now, can you see the difference between protestors? ( We do wonder how many of the BusHitler types will find a way to link the cartoons to Nazi Administration of George Bush. See this- AND READ IT. When you are done, ask your mental healthcare professional for help)

Dan, at Riehl World View can be counted on to tell it like is, without the formality of the Foggy Bottom School of Dance training. In
Porta-Potty Mouths, he says,

Looks like DJ is a little Porta-pi$$ed-off at some of the antics going on around the port issue. He sums it up well but leaves out one point - some who took a strong stand against it might have some trouble backing off out of ego, pride, or simply for appearances.(emp-SC&A)
There's nothing wrong in suggesting a closer look. But that's a long way from simply coming out and screaming like a banshee about it from the start. Which category were, or are you in?

The link is to a good post up at Polipundit. Call Dan's post inelegant grace, if you must.

Of course, all this goes back to what we said earlier.

...America and the world are looking for moderate Muslims, a group that might share our own values and ethics. We don't have to agree politically, all the time, but that could be said about the French, too.

Are the opponents of the deal really voicing deeper fears? Isn't this really about racial profiling?

Are we about allowing the debacle of civil rights implementation, again? Do we believe that we can talk the talk and not walk the walk, again? How many decades did it take for the democrat south to integrate the schools 'with all due haste'? How many decades did the majority of democrats in the south block a congressional apology for lynching? Are we saying that we're all for moderate Muslims, but as long as they don't get too uppity because we can't trust them- and besides, we can use them to bolster a political agenda? Will we condemn future generations of Muslims to never be equal? Will the argument be made that Muslims are incapable of equality, because of a tragic history, never to be overcome?

Well?

The argument that 'Well, there are bad people in the UAE that would do us harm' just won't wash. There are lying, thieving and drunk degenerates in the US Congress, too. Shall we assume they are all so tainted that none of them can be trusted (an idea that has some merit)?

We know who the pigs in Congress and we can keep a close eye on the lying, thieving and drunk degenerates. We can keep a close eye on the paper pushers sitting in Dubai- because in effect, that's about how close they are actually going to get to our ports.

The fact is, Buster made me think- and we are pleased to say we are not that ideologically bound. The deal stands on it's own merits.

Now that doesn't mean can't have a bit of fun with the story. Stash all liquids and see this. No meds if you don't.

SC&A Address The Grads Of Stupid University On Iraq

"To the Class of 2006- and every other other graduate of Stupid University, we say, congratulations on the likelihood that you are likely able to read. We do not expect you to be able to read beyond an eighth grade level, of course. You are after all, graduates of Stupid University and most of you read and worship the words of Kos, Democratic Underground and Wonkette. That is like attempting to get educated by listening to Betty Friedan tapes or Johnny Rotten albums backwards, at half speed, and believing that alone will prepare you for medical school and the lead position on the first brain transplant team, or into the White House.

Most of you have not read Shakespeare or Byron. You cannot spell Hyperion, believing instead that your travel agent can- so you do not care. As long as you have trophies for scoreless soccer and even bigger ones for 'excelling' at self esteem, you will be able to happily breeze through life, buying coordinated 'Bed-in-a Bag' linens and videotaping HGTV. Your politics will be forever defined by Howard Dean and will debate who had better hair, John Kerry or John Edwards. Those heated debates will go long into the night.

Now, pay attention because we are going to teach you something of value. We are going to tell you about Iraq. Shut up and listen and stop touching yourselves. You do not want to engage us in an argument, because we have forgotten more than you will ever know. Take 10 minutes to figure out what we just said.

Saddam Hussein was not a nice man. Saddam Hussein did not have any visible weapons of mass destruction when we went into Iraq. That is not to say he didn't have them- it is to say they may have been moved.

Put your hands down, we're not taking questions. You will listen and be less of an idiot when we are done, or you can leave now and remain the jumbo, whopper sized moron you are now.

That Saddam Hussein had no visible WMD's at the time we went in is irrelevant. That's like saying Charlie Manson should get a free pass because he no longer owns a guitar and painted school bus.

Saddam Hussein produced and used weapons of mass destruction. By every account, including the UN's, Saddam could have reconstituted his WMD programs at any time. Saddam buried much of his WMD hardware components- equipment used to produce chemical, biological and nuclear WMD- in secret places. No one buries and hides equipment that makes playdough, etch a sketch or Suzy Homemaker toy ovens.

Buried WMD components do not produce flowers or fruit
. The only reason to bury WMD program hardware is to hide that hardware.

Saddam Hussein had not reformed and turned into an Arab Mother Teresa. Saddam Hussein displayed no contrition and did not choose to mend his ways. Saddam Hussein did support terror and terrorists and Saddam Hussein did maintain contact with Al Qaeda.

Shut up. We did not say that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11. Neither did George Bush. That said, what do you think the odds are that Saddam would have warned the US, if had advance knowledge of that terrible attack? Do you believe the man that attempted to assassinate a US president, ran a network of rape rooms and then went on to gas his own people, would have the best interests of his hated enemy, the United States, at heart?

Are you that stupid? Some of you would bet on Saddam? And you want to know why you didn't get into Harvard? Do you understand now why only Stupid University would have you?

The whole world, including the multicultural UN, believed Saddam had either WMD's, WMD programs or components to manufacture WMD's. Got that?

Shut up, you're still idiots.

The most vociferous defense of Saddam Hussein came from countries that had the most to fear from a free Iraq- Arab countries. A full court press was utilized in the attempt to keep the liberation of Iraq from happening. Arab countries feared- and still fear- that a free and democratic Iraq might serve to undermine their own regimes.

Think about this, morons. For decades, Arab countries have tightly controlled the movement of people within their borders. No one left, no one came in, unless allowed to. How is it that so many 'foreign fighters' are managing to make their way across borders, to make their way into Iraq, 'without the knowledge of their governments'? Why can't the ancient communities of Jews and Christians seem to make their way out of regimes that persecute them and effectively hold them hostage? Jews and Christians cannot escape to find refuge, while terrorists seem to have travel passes to wherever they wish to go.

Countries that are tyrannical regimes are not our equals and their values and interests are noty the same as ours. That applies to Hugo Chavez, too.

Now that you have an obscured awareness of reality (real understanding will probably elude you forever), leave these these hallowed halls of learning and go on to demonstrate and throw rocks at Starbucks, McDonald's and KFC at the next G-7 Summit.

We are sure your knowledge of the economics of globalization far exceeds your knowledge of Iraq and the War of Terror?

Questions?

Sure, we'll be happy to address your inadequacies on the implications of terror- after lunch.

You do not merit our missing a meal.

Outrage Is In Order

Fausta's morning posts are important reads. No excuses- they need to be read. You need to be reading Bad Hair Blog every day.

In More On The Halimi Murders, the multiculturalists have nowhere to hide. Fausta quotes Nidra Poller, in the Wall Street Journal:
Photos of Ilan, naked, with a sack on his head and a gun pointed at his temple were emailed to family members suggesting, according to the police, "scenes of torture at Abu Ghraib." As it turns out, the beheading of Daniel Pearl or Iraqi snuff films are the better comparison. An anonymous police detective quoted in Monday's edition of Libération said: "It's simply that, for those criminals, Jew equals money."

...investigating magistrate Corinne Goetzmann detained seven of the suspects on charges of kidnapping, sequestration, torture, acts of barbarism and premeditated murder in an organized gang...

No longer able to deny or play down the racial motive, the investigation is entering a new phase. One of the most troubling aspects of this affair is the probable involvement of relatives and neighbors, beyond the immediate circle of the gang, who were told about the Jewish hostage and dropped in to participate in the torture.

Ilan's uncle Rafi Halimi told reporters that the gang phoned the family on several occasions and made them listen to the recitation of verses from the Quran, while Ilan's tortured screams could be heard in the background.

Radical Islamist as moral equivalents? To whom- the Nazis? How many knew about Halimi's whereabouts and couldn't be bothered to call the police?

The festivities aren't over. In The Vatican: "Enough now with this turning the other cheek! It's our duty to protect ourselves," Fausta highlights a new reality: Christians will not bow to threats or violence of radical Islam.

As often happens at the Vatican, lower-level officials have been more outspoken than the Pope and his main aides.

"Enough now with this turning the other cheek! It's our duty to protect ourselves," Monsignor Velasio De Paolis, secretary of the Vatican's supreme court, thundered in the daily La Stampa. Jesus told his followers to "turn the other cheek" when struck.

"The West has had relations with the Arab countries for half a century, mostly for oil, and has not been able to get the slightest concession on human rights," he said...

"Let's drop this diplomatic silence," said the rector of the Pontifical Lateran University. "We should put pressure on international organizations to make the societies and states in majority Muslim countries face up to their responsibilities."

The President of the Christian Association in Nigeria issued the following statement:

a. From all indications, it is very clear now that the sacrifices of the Christians in this country for peaceful co-existence with people of other faiths has been sadly misunderstood to be weakness

b. We have for a long time now watched helplessly the killing, maiming and destruction of Christians and their property by Muslim fanatics and fundamentalists at the slightest or no provocation at all. We are not unaware of the fact that these religious extremists have the full backup and support of some influential Muslims who are yet to appreciate the value of peaceful co-existence.
c. That an incident in far away Denmark which does not claim to be representing Christianity could elicit such an unfortunate reaction here in Nigeria, leading to the destruction of Christian Churches, is not only embarrassing, but also disturbing and unfortunate.
d. It is no longer a hidden fact that a long standing agenda to make this Nigeria an Islamic nation is being surreptitiously pursued. The willingness of Muslim Youth to descend with violence on the innocent Christians from time to time is from all intents and purposes a design to actualize their dream.

2) a. It is sad to note that all acts of hostility meted against Christians by Muslims in the past have remained unaddressed with nobody paying compensations or the culprits brought to justice.

b. We do appreciate the fact that at this stage of our national development, peace is absolutely necessary for realizing our dreams and aspirations. It is in view of this that Christians in Nigeria agreed to participate in the forthcoming National Census as sacrifice for the peace and progress of this nation, in spite of our protest over the non-inclusion of Religion and Ethnicity as necessary demographic data.

c. May we at this stage remind our Muslim brothers that they do not have the monopoly of violence in this nation. Nigeria belongs to all of us – Christians, Muslims and members of other faiths. No amount of intimidation can Change this time-honoured arrangement in this nation. C.A.N. may no longer be able to contain our restive youths should this ugly trend continue.

Experts And Exports: Another Tale Of Two Peoples

Another Tale of Two Peoples, (Chapter One, Chapter Two)

Ohio Farmers Seek Israeli Expertise:
A group of Ohio farmers hopes to use that expertise to improve productivity. A 29-person delegation is leaving Sunday for a 10-day trip to Israel to learn everything from water management to milk processing to handling urban expansion.

"I'm extremely intrigued by the ability of them to grow enough crops for 7 million people in the desert," said Daniel Corcoran, 42, who raises soybeans, wheat and alfalfa on his 4,000-acre family farm near Waverly in southern Ohio. "Hopefully, there are things we can bring back here."

Israel is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Only about 20 percent of the land can be farmed and half of that has to be irrigated.

But Israel not only produces most of its own food, it also has enough to export. Fruit, vegetables and fertilizer are among the most successful exports.

Pretty impressive, right? Now check out this related report, dug out of the attic over at Rusty Shackleford's Jawa Report.

Palestinian Bomb Maker Training Islamic Terrorists In Philippines.

Authorities have arrested a Palestinian man who allegedly trained al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf guerrillas in the past and returned to the Philippines for a possible terror mission, government officials said Thursday. Israelis train farmers. Palestinians train terrorist bombers.

Buster, Ports, Texas And Velvet

Just yesterday, The Anchoress wrote a post, FT & Buster On The Dubai Question, in which she addressed the UAE ports story for the first time. Like The Anchoress, we have been loathe to clearly opine on the matter, but after reading her post- and especially the opinions of Buster, her son, we gave further thought to the matter and have decided to chime in.

Buster clearly see the issue of a UAE company handling the paperwork of a large port as a non issue. He has a point. Do we really care if the only real exchange of any value goes to the UAE is money? The democrats, trying to make hay out of the story, are woefully ill equipped to do so. They proved not care a whit about American technology and information passed on to China during the Clinton years, in a variety of scandals the Democrats could not be bothered to address.

Still, there are other points here here- and Buster makes them forcefully and clearly. The Anchoress recounts the exchange with her son. Says Buster:

I look at it this way... He’s gotta have a reason for backing this, and I can’t for a second believe that his reasonings are for anything but America’s good. The problem is, as usual, he absolutely STINKS at making things clear. People are screaming that they don’t understand what he’s doing…all he’s doing is being consistent. People used to love him for that. Also, I think he’s showing off who the racists are. Do you realize, that this is ONE MORE THING Bush has done that - really - the left should be approving of? Just like liberating women in Afghanistan, just like closing down the rape rooms in Iraq, this is one more thing the left would approve of if only someone else were president, because it precludes the racist element. But of course, they’ll hate him for it, too.”

OK, lets look at that. America and the world are looking for moderate Muslims, a group that might share our own values and ethics. We don't have to agree politically, all the time, but that could be said about the French, too.

Sound familiar?

The argument that 'Well, there are bad people in the UAE that would do us harm' just won't wash. There are lying, thieving and drunk degenerates in the US Congress, too. Shall we assume they are all so tainted that none of them can be trusted (an idea that has some merit)?

We know who the pigs in Congress and we can keep a close eye on the lying, thieving and drunk degenerates. We can keep a close eye on the paper pushers siting in Dubai- because in effect, that's about how close they are actually going to get to our ports.

There is another issue here, even more important than the ones mentioned.

In the 2000 campaign, George Bush made mention of the 'velvet discrimination of lowered expectations.' He was of course, qualified to make that remark. As Governor of Texas, he raised test scores considerably among minority student populations- so much so, that he took the heat from white schools districts and politicians and kept right on funding minority schools until a difference was made. His efforts, quiet and determined, were rewarded by his re election with great support from the minority communities.

At the 2000 Democrat National Convention, speaker after speaker ridiculed George Bush and attacked the level and quality of Texas schools. The attacks, were bitter and even obscene, so much so that the Texas Democrat delegation threatened to walk out of the convention hall if the orgy of attacks on Texans and Texas schools didn't stop. They were being told that their kids were stupid- and they, as parents, were stupid. They were told what they knew to be a truth- that George Bush improved education in Texas, at the time the fastest growing state with a myriad of other infrastructure matters to deal with, was a lie.

Texans were stupid. Their kids were stupid and the voters in Texas were stupid. That was a principal theme of the 2000 Democrat National Convention. Teacher unions, Dem talking heads and 'experts' tried to denigrate the state of education and schools in Texas. Parents, it seems, sharing the front line of their kids educations, were stupid- especially minority parents.

We are allowing Democrat propaganda to influence reality and our perception of reality. Many are starting to believe that Mr Bush might not be so smart, as the Democrats insist.

In what is a profound irony, the President that has liberated tens of millions, regarded a liberator by virtually every freedom loving formerly oppressed citizen, created a robust economy in a time of war, is regarded as less than impressive.

The descendants of those liberated by this president, like the descendants of those saved by Oskar Schindler, will remember this president as having had a profound influence on history and of freedom, long into the future. This president, like every other, will be accountable for his mistakes. This president, like every other is far from perfect.

This president took a risk that none before him had the courage to do. This president attempted to bring democracy- real freedom, with all it's faults and trials, to peoples worn down by tyranny.

Jimmy Carter speaks of freedom, beautifully- and for that he is to be commended. Bill Clinton, too, speaks of freedom and high ideals, and his words too, merit our attention. In fact all our former presidents were true patriots, each in their own way. As a nation, we have been blessed

George W, Bush did more than speak of high ideals. George Bush proved that America was not self serving or self absorbed. George Bush proved America and the American ideals of freedom were adaptable to all.

Notwithstanding the political climate and media bias, George Bush will be forever remembered as the American president for whom democracy wasn't just a political system, but rather, it was and remains, an ideal. That is why those who attack him are so frustrated at their failure to seriously influence public opinion. They are attacking a man for whom ideals are more important that 'the system.' We haven't seen that kind of idealism since FDR- who no doubt, would be passed over for the likes of Howard Dean by crazed democrats.

Even if Iraq and Afghanistan both fail as democracies, this time around, they will at some time, succeed in the future- all because George Bush did the right thing for the right reasons. He showed the Iraqis and the Afghanis that America believed in them.

That will be the legacy of George W. Bush. The world will remember that America- not Mr Bush- but America, and what she stands for- and the coalition of the willing, believed that highest of ideals are to be found even in the most oppressed of men. There is nothing political partisans and the media can do to change that.

As a result of political propaganda, far too many Americans now share the 'velvet discrimination of lowered expectations' from George Bush. Fortuantely the President has not lowered the expectations he has of himself.

Be it recognizing moderate Muslims or bringing democracy to far away places, George Bush will always do the right thing. As Buster said,

"This is probably going to be another thing Bush has to drag us kicking and screaming through, and it will be alright. In the end, we’ll thank him."
In fact, Mr Bush will have made us proud to be American.

Tick Tock, Tick Tock

In a 2005 book, Eurabia, a scholar who goes by the nom de plume Bat Ye’or wrote illuminatingly about what she called "dhimmitude" the relegation of non-Muslims, in the Muslim world, to the subordinate social position of "dhimmis," individuals who have no rights and who are tolerated as long as they behave obsequiously and accept their inferior status. Ye’or warned that many European leaders were assuming an increasingly dhimmi-like posture in relation to radical Muslim leaders both in Europe and beyond, reflexively overlooking the more unpleasant aspects of Muslim culture and the widespread resistance to integration. Ye’or noted that if this dhimmitude persisted, and if present immigration and birth rates held up, Europe would soon fall under the sway of Koranic law sharia.

To many, this sounded outrageous. But on February 10, in Oslo, came a dramatic capitulation that seemed a classic case of sharia in action. For days, Velbjørn Selbekk, editor of the tiny Christian periodical Magazinet the first publication to reprint the now-famous Muhammed cartoons from the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten had firmly resisted pressure by Muslim extremists (who made death threats) and by the Norwegian establishment (which urged him to give in). But then, on that morning the day before a planned mass demonstration against the cartoons Norway’s Minister of Labor and Social Inclusion, Bjarne Håkon Hanssen, hastily called a press conference at a major government office building in Oslo.

There, to the astonishment of his supporters, Selbekk issued an abject apology for reprinting the cartoons. At his side, accepting his act of contrition on behalf of 46 Muslim organizations and asking that all threats now be withdrawn, was Mohammed Hamdan, head of Norway’s Islamic Council. In attendance were members of the Norwegian cabinet and the largest assemblage of imams in Norway's history. It was a picture right out of a sharia courtroom: the dhimmi prostrating himself before the Muslim leader, and the leader pardoning him and, for good measure, declaring Selbekk to be henceforth under his protection, as if it were he, Hamdan, and not the Norwegian police, that held in his hands the security of citizens in Norway.

Selbekk, in his prepared remarks, leaned heavily on the usual soothing multicultural language, including the word "understanding." It was clear that Selbekk had indeed come to an understanding: he understood that if he didn't relent, he risked physical harm. He also spoke of "respect" a word that in this context must surely have been understood by the imams to refer not to a volitional regard for a social equal but to the obligatory deference of a repentant infidel. As for Handam, he noted that "Selbekk has children the same age as my own. I want my children and his children to grow up together, live together in peace, and be friends." This was rather chilling, given that Selbekk’s family, too, had been under threat. The Norwegian government hailed this "reconciliation." Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who had faced off with Selbekk in several TV debates when the latter had been defending free speech, now congratulated him for his apology, which he characterized, grotesquely, as an act of "responsibility" that displayed "integrity and courage." Norway’s imams were ecstatic: one said that "the fact that Norwegians have apologized gives Norway…a higher status than before." And Aftenposten, Norway’s newspaper of record, cheered Selbekk’s action, while denying that it constituted an admission that he had no right to publish the cartoons. Alas, Selbekk’s surrender plainly represented a giant step toward a purely theoretical "freedom of speech" a "freedom" of which fewer and fewer Norwegians, after this officially sanctioned act of national humiliation, will dare to avail themselves. On Tuesday, as if Norway hadn't already been disgraced enough, an official Norwegian delegation met in Qatar with Muslim leader Yusuf al Qaradawi (who has defended suicide bombers and the murder of Jewish women and children) and implored him to accept Selbekk's apology for the cartoons. Lucky them: he did. "To meet Yusuf al-Qaradawi under the present circumstances," the Norwegian-Iraqi writer Walid al-Kubaisi told Aftenposten yesterday, "is tantamount to granting extreme Islamists and defenders of terror a right of joint consultation regarding how Norway should be governed." Yep.Then again, at least Norway had its brief, shining moment of resistance. Not Sweden. Among the European leaders who have insisted firmly in recent days that their nations enjoyed free speech only to insist even more firmly that that right must be exercised "responsibly" was Swedish foreign minister Laila Freivalds, who, responding on February 9 to a Muhammed cartoon in the newspaper of the right-wing Swedish Democratic Party, didn’t just call for "responsibility" but enforced it, sending the Security Police to close down the party website. "It is frightful," she sniffed, "that a small group of Swedish extremists can expose Swedes to a clear danger" as if it were the Swedish Democrats, and not Islamic extremists, who were threatening violence. Lately, many Europeans have sought to explain to enraged Muslims that democratic states cannot silence the free expression of ideas; Freivalds appeared determined to show that in Sweden, at least, this is no longer the case.

In recent days, these acts of dhimmitude by Norway and Sweden have had their counterparts in the corridors of international power. On February 9, Franco Frattini, EU Commissioner of Justice, Freedom, and Security, promised to take steps to "regulate" speech (though he later denied this); Kofi Annan, in a February 12 interview on Danish TV, said "You don’t joke about other people’s religion, and you must respect what is holy for other people." Since when do the EU and UN tell supposedly free people what to respect and what not to respect? Since now, apparently.

Many Islamists do not hide the fact that their long-term goal is to turn Europe, step by step, into a Muslim caliphate ruled by sharia law. Alas, it looks at present as if the cartoon controversy may turn out to have been a significant step on the way to that goal. One thing is clear, at any rate: these have been the darkest days for European freedom in many a decade.

Time To Take Out The Canadian Islamic Congress And Other Garbage

There is a teenager in your neighborhood. The teen is a violent bully with a mean streak as wide as Tennessee. He routinely harasses and terrorizes others in the neighborhood. He harasses women mercilessly and proudly wears racism as a badge of honor. As expected, the young man is a pathological liar- and there is no indication that the he has any intention of changing his or her ways. The bad behavior has been going on for years. In fact, the young man is feeling emboldened. Friends continue to encourage violent misbehavior, and in fact, he is rewarded for that bad behavior. Many in the neighborhood point to that young man as a model citizen.

How would you handle the situation? Would you talk to the teenager? What would you say? Would you place restrictions on the child? What kind? Do you believe there needs to be strong punishment if appropriate behavior cannot be had? What kind of punishment would be appropriate?

How would you address the friends that encourages that bad behavior? Would you isolate them? Punish them? Talk with them, in the hope they might come to realize that bad behavior is never appropriate

A therapist that specializes in children would take the time to get to know the child. In carefully crafted exchanges, that qualified therapist would be able to determine what positive and negative influences motivate the child. What qualifies a therapist? What makes a therapist effective? Experience, of course. The more experience a practitioner has working with dysfunctional children, the better the chance of success.

The child in question of course, is Hamas. Notwithstanding the well rehearsed (and by now, tired) protestations innocence and well rehearsed litanies of victimhood (Start with
Dr Sanity here), the fact remains that Hamas is the child that has come to represent the Arab cause- and suffering. As such, the Arab world and Arab apologists in the west have painted themselves into a corner. They must come up with ways to defend the unruly- and murderous- Hamas. To be clear, Hamas has defined itself.

In Hamas Uber Alles, Frontpage's David Meir Levi does for Hamas what no one else has. He gives them a stage, where in their own voice, they can stand up and define themselves in word and action, unimpeded by those who find their ideology understandably revolting. In the process, the Hamas defenders only highlight their own shortcomings and deceit.

Whatever its representatives may have said in the recently completed campaign, this is an Islamic fundamentalist terror group whose sole purpose is the destruction of Israel and an apocalyptic future in which all Jews are either dead or Muslim, all remaining Christians are Dhimmi, and the stage is set for the resurrection of the dead and the redemption of the world into “dar es-Salaam” (the realm of world peace that will prevail once Islam is the only religion on earth, or at least the ruling religion).

Hamas is a Moslem religious community committed to not just the destruction of Israel but of all Jews throughout the world. It is irredentist as well as genocidal, having as part of its longer term plan the re-conquest of those nations that were once under Moslem rule (Spain, Greece, Hungary, Rumania, Slovakia, India); and an even longer range plan of bringing Islam to a position from which it will be “…in control of guiding the affairs of life.”

Hamas is very clear in its belief that Jews cannot have sovereignty in any sacred Moslem land. Sheikh Yassin (whom the Israelis killed) said that Hamas would destroy Israel even if it had to be done one Jew at a time. His number two man, Sheikh Abdul-Azziz Rantizi, has put it in a slightly less bloodthirsty way: There is no room for Jews in the Moslem land of Palestine.

And so it goes. Naturally, the Hamas defenders are uncomfortable with the mirror held up, so in the tradition of the best circus and midway entertainers, they focus on building a series of fun house mirrors, designed to distort the image of what is real. Their drive is deadly serious- to look into that undistorted mirror is to have to face the reality of culture that has sunk into deep decline and irrelevance- and one that basks in deceit and barbarism.

Mohammed El Masry is one such expert, more comfortable with deceit than reality- a necessary skill for the president of the Canadian Islamic Congress. In fact, his detachment from civilized thought has been noticed and drawn rebuke from his own community. In a radio interview, he declared all Israelis, regardless of gender or age, to be legitimate targets of Palestinian terror (a transcript of El Masry's remarks can be found here).

Like a drug addict hooked on heroin, El Masry relies on deceit to make it through the day, hoping that no one will notice his bizarre behavior.

A recent column provides evidence of a desperate detachment from reality- and even more insidiously, El Masry's column is evidence that long and time honored Arab tradition of replacing real education with bias and hate, continues even in the west.

Mr El Masry implies that Ariel Sharon was the perpetrator of great crimes against the Palestinians

Western countries did not object when Israelis elected Ariel Sharon as prime minister, despite the Palestinian blood on his hands from brutal military campaigns in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza; despite the fact that countless Palestinians lost their lives, loved ones, and whole families, with his full knowledge, approval, and complicity..”
Of course, El Masry attempts to imply the massacres of Sabra and Shatilla were at the hands of Israelis. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth.

The Palestinians were attacked by the Christian Phalange- payback, for decades of persecution at the hands of Muslims and the Palestinians in particular. The Christians did not attack the Palestinians out of a sense of love and respect:

Did you really assume that the Palestinians were attacked for no reason or that groups of civilian Christians suddenly developed a blood lust for Palestinians? Why did the Christians attack only Palestinians and not the Lebanese Muslims with whom they lived peaceably for centuries? The Christians have historically been a peaceful people who preferred to live in Lebanon in a historical balance with their Muslim neighbors, a friendly and respectable balance that existed until Yasir Arafat and his killers entered Lebanon.
An account of those events can be found here. In addition, the Free Lebanon site is an excellent source of information- the kind Mr El Masry would just as soon have you avoid.

El Masry goes on to ask

“...why are Palestinians, who have suffered injustice for generations, not allowed to aspire toward peace with justice by electing -- without fear -- those who they believe will lead them closer to this goal?”
No one has disputed the election. No one has claimed fraud or irregularities. In fact, just the opposite is true. The Palestinians were free to elect whomever the wish and they did. That they have chosen to elect a group of barbarians that openly embrace racism and bigotry is indeed an indication of the nature of Palestinian society and culture- the same culture openly shared by the Arab world.

That said, other democracies are free to distance themselves from the bigotry and racism of Hamas. While the El Masry's of this world would argue the case for a freely elected Adolph Hitler in 1933, fortunately, the civilized world will not make that same mistake twice. The west can and will make still make certain distinctions when it comes to hatred and bigotry. That cannot be arguied of course, El Masry's protestations notwithstanding. Palestinian media, school books and mosque sermons make clear the truth.

El Masry isn't done yet. His charges fly in the face of the truth.

“Palestinians are struggling for their independence against one of the cruellest occupation forces of modern times; an occupation force which is unashamedly backed by the world's only remaining super- power and supported by a Western media which believes "Israel can do no wrong."
In fact, the Israeli occupation is the most benign occupation in history. We wrote the short course, here.
“In age of destruction that is unparalled in history, the Israelis have been remarkably restrained. If they really wanted to kill Palestinians, they have the firepower to do so. The rest of the Arab world never gave a damn about the Palestinians in the past, and they don't really care about them now.”
In fact, the 'cruelest' occupation gave the Palestinians electricity, health care, hospitals, education (including a university system), a viable economy and even sewage treatment. If it was the intentions of the Israelis were a cruel occupation and persecution of Palestinians, they have failed miserably.

Most impudently, El Masry equates the Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza (the result of an Arab started war that promised 'rivers of blood' and rape), to the tragedy of the Holocaust.

“That same Western culture raises moving and genuine emotion over the killing of a single Jew, but seems to have been programmed for cold indifference when it comes to the mass-murder -- genocide, in fact -- of thousands of Palestinian women and children. How can we go on supporting such contradictory beliefs?”
Mr El Masry is attempting to add even more deceit to the equation when he makes those connections. Genocide is what the Arab janjaweed are doing in Sudan. Genocide was what happened in Algeria, as children were raped and dismembered at the hands of the GIA (Hamas first cousins). Genocide is what occurred in East Timor, when Muslims forced Christians to convert at the end of sword, or be be disemboweled. In fact, there are a lot of Palestinians that find life under Israeli 'occupation' preferable to living under Palestinian rule. See The Hell Of Israel Is Better Than The Paradise Of Arafat.

We can only assume the numbers that would concur with those sentiments has only increased if Hamas implements Sharia Law, as promised.

As we noted, it appears the Israelis are remarkably inept and incompetent when it comes to genocide.

In fact, it is the Muslim world (the Palestinians in particular) that has embraced genocide of the Jews. In the last Palestinian election, there were at least 2 dozen politicians that adopted the moniker of 'Hitler,' in form or another. Mein Kampf is a perennial best seller in the Arab world. Blood libels are a mainstay of Arab world entertainment and lore.

The disruptive, violent and dysfunctional society and culture that the Palestinians have created for themselves, are clearly visible. What is also clearly visble is the company they keep- like minded individuals and organizations.

El Masry is a hypocrite, liar and fraud. As such, he is unquestionably qualified to president of the Canadian Muslim Congress.
