Hypocrisy, Corruption And Psychopathy

When a Republican, conservative or religious figure is embroiled in a scandal, he's derided as a hypocrite.

When a Democrat, progressive or religious critic is involved, he's a victim of a press agenda, political ideologues from the 'dark side' or an addiction for which the federal government refuses to fund.

When a Republican or religious figure is involved in sexual improprieties, he is pervert or hypocrite.

When a Democrat, progressive or religious critic is involved in similar activities, the crimes are 'victimless.' Tell that to their spouse and children, as the Anchoress wryly noted (we couldn't find the post in which that salient observation was made, but like the pasta sauce, 'it's in there'). Much respected Alan Dershowitz managed to make a fool of himself as he tried to make Elliot Spitzer a victim of 'prudish' Americans. No doubt his wife and children would treat similar behaviors with no more than a shrug, right?

When a Republican, conservative or religious figure is caught up in a scandal, media coverage is incessant, with every previous scandal committed Republicans, conservatives and religious figures rehashed. Political identification, ideologies and religious conviction are an integral part of the story.

When a Democrat or religious critic is involved in similar activities, the media coverage is somewhat more obscure. There is less mention of similar behaviors by others of similar beliefs.

Elliot Spitzer is a prime example. The governor of New York is the chief executive of one of the largest states in the nation, a state that is has an economy greater than that of most nations. In Democrat Family Secrets, Dr Sanity noted hard to ignore a clear example of collective psychopathy.

The Democrats have their little family secret when it comes to Bill and his multiple sexual transgressions over the years. They have always dealt with it by attacking and destroying the reputations of his victims while defending the essential goodness of their man. That this behavior is perversely contrary to their professed commitments to women's rights and 'social justice' has always been a source of amazement to me. The fact that they don't see how self-serving--not to mention morally and intellectually bankrupt--their behavior in the Lewinsky matter was, is clearly of clinical significance.

Shrinkwrapped, in A Tawdry Greek Tragedy acknowledges the satisfaction many are taking in Spitzer's fall:

The downfall of Eliot Spitzer is an obvious occasion for Schadenfreude. He was often mean spirited and used his powers as Attorney General as a bludgeon to threaten people with prosecution if they ran afoul of his temper or ego. He was unpleasant to people who he could use to advance his political ambitions. Yet, one does not need to be a Psychiatrist to appreciate how sad this entire affair is, not only for his wife and daughters, who he has shamed, but also for himself.

One only has to take note in the obvious delight of many Democrats, progressives or religious critics when the shoe is on the other foot. The transgressor is excoriated of course, but more often than not, his family, community and religious affiliations are ridiculed. Often, they are deliberately humiliated, the victim of insult and derision by those who take delight in their suffering.

Democrats, progressives and religious critics like to point to the 'hypocrisy' of those they disagree with. When someone touts 'family values' or 'morality' and falls from grace, is reason enough they say, to tar anyone who shares those political opinions.

Really?

Democrats, progressives or religious critics claim to be better people, with a higher morality and higher calling, better than those they take to task, by virtue of their beliefs. It is just as clear that behavior and accountability do not fall into the equation. Like all leftist elites of all times, it is more a matter of 'Do as I say, not as I do.'

Like the Nazis and Soviet communists before them, it is their vision and their vision only that is acceptable. Deviate even a bit and you become an ‘enemy of the state.’ Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman are now ‘traitors...’

...In their goal to create and be ubermenschen, and to create the ubermensch utopia, they had to become the very untermenschen they claimed to abhor. They have adopted the same bigoted, repressive and oppressive ideologies as the regimes they are so attracted to. An example of that is the left’s support and worship of some of the most failed and racist regimes on the planet.

Perhaps the time has come to lump most Democrats, progressives and religious critics in with all the failures, bigotry and racism they so easily and willingly espouse.
